Parent Voices Matter: Community Needs Survey Launched

At Phoenix, we believe that meaningful support starts with listening. In August, we launched a new Community Parent Survey aimed at understanding the real needs of families in East Belfast. The goal is simple but vital: we want to hear directly from parents and caregivers about the types of support services that would make a genuine difference in their lives.

Whether it’s academic tutoring, mental health support, youth clubs, or help navigating school systems, your feedback will shape our upcoming programmes and services. The survey only takes a few minutes, but your input could influence years of impactful support. Please take part, and help us build services with the community, not just for it.

Step Up For Change Enjoys a Day Out at the Mela

August brought sunshine, smiles, and celebration as our Step Up For Change group attended the Belfast Mela at Botanic Gardens. This annual multicultural festival was the perfect backdrop for a day of fun, food, music, and friendship. Our young people got to enjoy everything from drumming workshops to traditional dance, global cuisine, and community performances.

Events like this are about more than just a fun day out—they’re opportunities to connect across cultures, build confidence, and expand horizons. It was incredible to see our participants embracing the diversity of our city, stepping out of their comfort zones, and engaging in positive experiences that will stay with them long after the music stops.

GCSE Success

We are incredibly proud to share the story of one of our learners, a young man with dyslexia, who overcame personal and academic challenges to pass all of his GCSEs, including English Language. His achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a powerful example of what can happen when the right support is in place.

With a combination of dedicated tutoring, emotional encouragement, and tailored learning strategies, he proved that barriers don’t define potential, determination does. This success story reminds us why we do what we do: to empower young people to reach their full potential, regardless of the obstacles they face. Congratulations—we’re all celebrating with you!

Phoenix Community Hub Needs You: Volunteer With Us

Our brand-new Phoenix Community Hub is off to a strong start—but we need volunteers to keep the momentum going! Whether you have a few hours a week or want to get involved long-term, your time and skills could make a meaningful difference.

By volunteering, you become part of something bigger than yourself: a movement of people coming together to strengthen their community. If you’re ready to give back and grow with us, we’d love to hear from you.

School Uniform Drive: A Hub in Full Swing

With the school year just around the corner, our Phoenix Community Hub has been buzzing with activity. One of our key initiatives this month was the School Uniform Donation Drive, and the response from the community has been amazing. Thanks to your generous contributions, we’ve been able to provide free, good-quality uniforms to families who needed a bit of extra help during the back-to-school season.

These small acts of kindness have a huge impact. No child should feel left out because of financial stress, and no parent should have to choose between essentials and education. We’re still accepting donations throughout September, especially for secondary school uniforms, so please keep them coming. Together, we’re making sure every child starts the term with confidence.

Thank You, Phoenix Family

As we close out another month filled with growth, joy, and community connection, we want to say a heartfelt thank you. To our young people, families, volunteers, donors, and staff, you are the heart of everything we do. This month, you showed once again what’s possible when a community comes together to lift one another up.

We look forward to another season of progress, empowerment, and shared success. As always, we’ll keep listening, learning, and working with you to build a brighter future, one step at a time.
