Following the end of the 2025/2026 school year, summer provides us all with a very welcomed time to relax, rest, and reset. We shut our doors for the first two weeks of the month to let our hardworking office staff and youth workers enjoy their time in the summer sun! And we all came back feeling ready to organise and prepare for the upcoming school year.
The Importance of Rest
Before long, our classrooms, programmes, and community spaces will once again be filled with the energy and enthusiasm of a new school year. Taking time to properly rest over the summer isn’t simply a reward after a busy year—it’s an important investment in our wellbeing.
Research has consistently shown that regular periods of rest help to:
– lower stress levels
– improve memory and concentration
– strengthen our immune system
– support emotional resilience.
Time away from work also allows the brain to recover from prolonged periods of mental effort, helping us return with renewed creativity, clearer thinking, and greater motivation.
For those working in education and youth services, where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a positive difference, looking after our own wellbeing is just as important as supporting the wellbeing of others. By taking time to recharge now, we can return ready to provide the patience, energy, and encouragement that our young people and families deserve.
As we look ahead to another year of learning, growth, and strengthening our East Belfast community, we would like to thank every member of staff for their dedication, compassion, and hard work throughout the year. We hope everyone enjoys a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer break, and we look forward to welcoming you back refreshed for another exciting year together.
Keeping Your Brain Active During Summer
During the summer holiday, it is important to keep your brain active by reading, solving puzzles, or learning new skills. Keeping your mind engaged helps you remember what you have learned and makes it easier to return to school feeling confident and ready to learn. It can also be fun to explore new hobbies, visit museums, or spend time being creative, helping your brain grow while you enjoy your break.
Summer reading challenge
Turning activities into games are a great way to keep you motivated, especially during summer. Our summer reading challenge can help by provided prompts for what to read, when to read, and help you visualise your reading accomplishments.
Give it a try and see how long it takes to get bingo, or push yourself to complete the entire chart!
Summer Booster Sessions
In August we are hosting our FREE summer booster sessions for students in Primary 5-7 and those going into their GCSE’s. These sessions are tailored to help students feel more confident coming into the new school year, providing a glimpse into what they will learn over the next year.
We still have room for anyone interested in joining these sessions. Just reach out to our office to secure your spot.
